“Got a whole new direction”
Brian may have been through a tough time with the breakup of his marriage and the deaths of both his father and Freddie Mercury but in 1993 he was back. And sounding rejuvenated on the soaring Resurrection, raising an erection with awesome guitar and the pounding drums of Cozy F. Powell – who was also back after being crushed by a horse in the early 90s! They both sound like they’re having the best time, May playing heavy and flashy but with a loose exuberance, driven on by an absolute arse-kicking from Powell that sends Resurrection into Sabbath Tyr territory. Fuck yes. Two rock legends, back with a bang.
Really funny you posted this. Even since getting the Queen Miracle box set I’ve been meaning to catch up on my Brian May. All I own are Starfleet and Live at Brixton.
Cozy Frank Powell I’m sure you mean right? LOL

I thought it was Frederick! Shows what I know. I can’t quite pull the trigger on that Miracle set. I hear May has a Starfleet reissue in the works. I’d get that.

I WILL get that. The Miracle box set — I have been enthusing all weekend about it with Tim Durling. Money well spent for me, my friend. Some of the first takes, and alternate versions? I’m thinking “This should have been on the album”. I also played the LP of Miracle yesterday with Too Much Love Will Kill You, and I have to say it was really pristine, great sounding record.

Sounds good. I’d maybe bite if the price drops… I don’t know if I’d listen to the bonus stuff enough to justify it.

I know I will. Not all of it of course, but even the instrumental CD is turning out to be quite delightful!

Stirring track, Scott. I also enjoyed the drama of the deeper registered, thick vocal harmony part between Powell’s highlight and May’s guitar solo. The song has that Queen theatrical flair that’s a joyful to listen. Thanks for sharing.

You’re welcome, glad you dug it. Stirring is a good word for it!

If only Tony Cat Martin had sung it too – it just needed a stronger set of lungs I reckon. I miss Cozy Powell.

A wee bit yeah… but then you think everything would be better with Tony Martin singing.

This was a good album as I bought it on CD back in the day. Cozy really drove that ship with the drums with whatever band he was in.

It’s a good album for sure. May and Powell were a great team

I had no idea that Cozy Powell played with Brian May. Interesting!

He appeared on May’s first two solo albums. I think it was the last stuff Cozy did maybe? Worth checking out, there’s some great stuff on them!

Cool song, however, the song this from this album which was best known at the time was “Driven By You” which was used in Ford adverts.

I almost wrote about that one instead actually! But this is a better track. And I think this was a pretty reasonable hit too when it was a single.

I didn’t know it was a single as well but I agree it’s a better track.

I think there was a few singles from the album. Too Much Love Will Kill You was Top 10. Don’t think Resurrection broke the Top 20 though.

I forgot about “Too Much Love Will Kill You” but I still think “Resurrection” is a better track.
