“Damn Hot Tonight”
1977’s Lace And Whiskey is not one of my favourite Coop albums by any means but the album opener It’s Hot Tonight is one of my most beloved tracks of his. It’s got an extremely ballsy opening riff and a ton of swagger, coming across every bit as scorched and steamy as the title suggests. Maybe it’s just because of the album title and artwork but I always get a hot city noir vibe from it too. The first time I ever saw Cooper live was in Glasgow on an unusually hot night and I was thrilled when he launched into this. Seeing the great man strut his way through a huge-sounding version of this in a packed, sweaty Barrowlands was just brilliant, a peak concert-going moment for me.
Yeah that album has pretty weird vibes but this song is killer.

He’s one of those guys, there’s always a good song or two on every album. Even the crap ones.

I’m the first to admit that I don’t give “Lace and Whiskey” the time of day but this track may compel me to look again.

There’s some good songs on it but not a great album

Not the album that Goes To Hell was, but as Popoff once said, you could make a hell of a great tape from all these “lost” Cooper albums.

I don’t like Goes To Hell much either. Maybe less than LAW

Goes To Hell really connects with me. Probably the inner child. This one is more just an album I enjoy listening to rather than having an emotional connection to.

I bloody love Lace And Whiskey the album. It’s one of the Coop albums I play the most these days. It’s Hot Tonight is a damned good example. With a lot of other bands of the era this would have been one of their greatest hits. But the really bananas stuff later in the record is great. I love this, and Go To Hell, and Muscle Of Love the most these days.

I really like Muscle Of Love but Goes To Hell and beyond is an era with a lot of good songs but generally ropey albums for me. This is maybe the least patchy of the era, I’ll give you that!

Love the idea of Coop at the Barrowlands – bet that was great. I think this is a great track, never heard it before either.
